Get to know your fellow club members by Mark Jacobs
Last weekend was the WPA 10km road championship as part of the UWC fast and flat event which I believe was the 28th Edition.
I had the privilege of of chaperoning a number of 🐝’s which included 2 of our sponsored runners 🏃.
With this in mind I would like to share my interaction with 2 of the sponsored runners who participated on the day. As previously celebrated, they ran very respectable times of 36 & 37min respectively at the event. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Let’s start with the Senior in the group.
NAME: Gimmo (aka Jimmo)
SURNAME: Matuso
Born: 1977, in a tiny village in Mozambique and currently resides in Masi
Running notables to date:
2 x Comrades (1 silver)
4 x Oceans 56km (1 silver)
2 x Oceans 21km (2 silver)
On to our junior:
NAME: James
SURNAME: Matuso
Born: 2007 in Cape Town. He is, 17 years of age and currently schooling in Masi.
Running notables, include making the track 5000m finals at the school’s district event. Many sub 20min runs at Fish Hoek Park Run and he recently won the FHAC time trial in a respectable 18min. James performed very well at WPA 10km champs accomplishing a silver medal top 10 finish on the day.
In the spirit of FHAC family I encourage you to take the time to introduce yourself to these wonderful athletes and fellow bees 🐝. Let’s make them feel at home 🏠 🤓
