ARD 3 Vlei Race review by Paul Kearns

I wanted to share a short review of the ARD 10km race I recently participated in. Now, I don’t usually sign up for 10km runs, but this one came highly recommended by folks at work and friends from FHAC.

Initially, I planned to take it easy and sneak in just under the one-hour mark. However, on race day, something felt different. I found myself tucked in just behind the 50-minute pacer, Dorian. To my surprise, Dorian decided I’d not paid the full fare and sped off, leaving me around the 48-minute mark. Determined, I kept pushing and ended up clocking a personal best of 49 minutes and 37 seconds – my first sub-50-minute 10km!The camaraderie among the large FHAC contingent was truly amazing, and it made the race even more enjoyable. Even better many others also got their PB’s too.

The event itself was incredibly well-organized and a blast to be part of. Without a doubt, I would happily run it again next year. Looking forward to the upcoming Grape Run, although the morning will be tough after a late night supporting the Boks.

Happy running! And Go Bokkie!
