RACE REPORT: Absa My Run 10km by Karen Jacobs

The Absa My Run 10km has a special place in my heart. Mark and I did our first race together as a couple in 2022. At that race I dragged two school colleagues along. When we joined FHAC in April 2023, it was also our first official race in club colours. We certainly stood out in the crowd among a sea of red.

This year I encouraged my son to run the race as his second official race of the year. Knowing the race is run on Mother’s Day made is extra special for us. Mark and I have always encouraged our children to be active as we want them to experience what we do on race day. The comraderie among runners, the positive vibe and the enthusiastic cheerleaders make it a must for us every year. It was fun doing the warm up with the Heart FM crew and watching some lucky person win a car!

Being in the company of seasoned club members makes it all the more exciting, as they remind us what running is all about. Just go out there and have fun. I guess when a bumble bee crosses the finish line, everyone notices, including a reporter, who pulled me aside to do an interview for TV.

What an awesome moment to end off a great running experience. Thank you FHAC and Absa My Run! I will be back next year again, hopefully encouraging some more young people to join us.
